Defending champion Brooklin Fry from Shell Lake, Saskatchewan has the first-round lead at the Provincial Junior Golf Championships at Moose Jaw's Hillcrest Golf Club. Fry shot an even-par 71 and has a 4-stroke lead on Sarah Grieve out of the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club.

Regina's Will Blake is the leader after one day in the Junior Mens' competition. 4 players are tied for 2nd place just one shot back.

17-year-old Aidan Shanks plays out of the Royal Regina Club and shot a 4 over 75. He's six strokes off the pace going into the second day of the tournament.

He says golf is all about your mental state and that it helps to keep it casual even in a competition.

"Golf is a great social game. You're out there for 4 1/2 to 5 hours so you get to know the guys in your group pretty well. And obviously have a lot of friends out here helps."

A total of 93 boys and girls are taking part in the competition this week.
