The Brandon Wheat Kings scored five power-play goals Wednesday and handed the Moose Jaw Warriors an 8-2 loss at the Subway WHL Hub.

The Wheat Kings came out fast and hard and put the Warriors on their heels with goals from Jake Chiasson and Lynden McCallum in the first 1:12 of the hockey game.

Moose Jaw took back-to-back penalties before the midway point of the period, which led to power-play goals from Chiasson and Ben McCartney and a 4-0 Wheat Kings lead 7:43 into the period.

Inside the final four minutes of the period, Moose Jaw landed on a 5-on-3 power play and used this to get on the scoreboard.

They forced the puck towards the Brandon net, goalie Connor Ungar could not cover the puck during a goalmouth scramble, which allowed Brayden Yager to pick up the rebound and score his second of the season.

There was some fight in the Warriors game to start the second period but unfortunately, their penalty problems continued.

Brandon picked up power-play goals from Vincent Iorio, Nate Danielson, and Neithan Salame, they added an even-strength marker from Logan Hammett to take a comfortable 8-1 lead through two periods.

Moose Jaw’s Calder Anderson picked up a late power-play goal in the third period, but that is where the Warriors' offence stopped.

Brandon outshot the Warriors 42-29; Moose Jaw was 2-for-6 on the power play while the Wheat Kings were 5-for-7.

Moose Jaw will have the next two days off to get ready for a pair of games coming up on the weekend.  Saturday night they take on the Prince Albert Raiders and then on Sunday they battle the Winnipeg ICE.
