The Calgary Stampeders exercised some demons on Sunday night, as they won the 106th Grey Cup.

After losing two straight Grey Cup games, including one to Ottawa, the Stampeders finally found their way back to the top of the CFL Mountain with a 27-16 win over the Redblacks at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.

Calgary quarterback Bo-Levi Mitchell, who won the CFL's Most Outstanding Player award, added to his hardware haul this week, as he named Grey Cup MVP after he completed 24-of-36 passes for 253 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Vancouver product Lemar Durant won the Grey Cup's Most Outstanding Canadian award after hauling in four catches for 30 yards and a touchdown.

The Stampeders did most of their damage in the second quarter, Mitchell connected with Durant for a 17-yard touchdown and Terry Williams returned a punt for a Grey Cup-record 97-yard touchdown with just one second left in the first half, which gave Calgary a 21-11 lead at halftime.

Ottawa wasn't able to break through Calgary's vaunted defence during the second half, setting for just five points.

Redblacks quarterback Trevor Harris finished with 288 yards passing, one touchdown and three interceptions in the loss.

Ottawa turned the ball over five times on offence.

This is Calgary's first Grey Cup win since 2014 and eighth overall.
