The Moose Jaw Warriors erased two three-goal first-period deficits to come from behind to beat the Regina Pats 5-4 in overtime Tuesday night at the Subway WHL Hub in the Queen City.

Winless coming into the game, the Pats attacked the Warriors from the opening faceoff and had an 18-9 advantage on the shot clock in the first twenty minutes.

Close to three minutes into the game, Regina beat the Warriors along the Moose Jaw wall and moved the puck to the blueline for Tom Cadieux, whose low shot found its way through traffic and to the back of the net.

At the seven-minute mark, Carson Denomie scored to make it 2-0, and then under three minutes later, Denomie scored a power-play goal to add to Regina’s lead.

Moose Jaw was finally able to respond at 10:51 when a second effort led to a turnover in the Regina zone.

Eric Alarie had the puck along the right wall and quickly moved it up to the blueline for Denton Mateychuk, who then came off the line for a shot to the Regina net.

Standing on top of the Pats crease was 2020 1st round pick Brayden Yager, who was able to deflect the puck over goalie Roddy Ross for his first WHL goal.

Moose Jaw’s momentum was silenced 57 seconds later when a turnover behind their net led to a Cole Dubinsky to give Regina a 4-1 lead.

The Warriors had a two-man advantage from the first period carry over to the second period, and they used that to their advantage.

23 seconds into the period Ryder Korczak controlled the puck on top of the right circle.  He found a seam to make a pass cross-ice to Tate Popple inside the left circle where he scored his third of the season.

Closing in on the eight-minute mark of the period, Cole Jordan jumped on a loose puck inside the Moose Jaw zone.

Jordan looked up the ice and made a tape-to-tape pass to Eric Alarie at the Regina blueline.  Alarie broke in on goalie Roddy Ross and zipped a shot to the twine, his second of the season pulled Moose Jaw to within one.

Just over a minute into the third period, the Warriors rushed across the Regina blueline.  Eric Alarie took a shot from on top of the left circle, and with the rebound loose behind the net, Ryder Korczak smacked it over the goal line to tie the game at four.

There were chances for both teams to pick up a goal in the rest of the period but neither converted, which meant for the third straight game the Warriors would head to overtime.

Approaching the two-minute mark of the extra period, Brayden Yager found some room to spring Daemon Hunt inside the Regina zone.  The Captain charged towards the net and finished the rush with his second goal of the season which completed the comeback.

Brayden Yager and Ryder Korczak led the Warriors with one goal and three points each, and Eric Alarie and Daemon Hunt had a goal and two points each.  Carson Denomie led the Pats with two goals.

In net, Brett Mirwald picked up his first WHL win in his debut after making 27 saves on 27 shots after coming into the game in relief of starter Boston Bilous.

Moose Jaw finished 1-for-5 on the power play and was 2-for-3 on the penalty kill.

With their record now at 3-0, the boys have Wednesday off to prepare for a Thursday game against the Winnipeg ICE.  Coverage from the Subway WHL Hub begins on Country 100 at 3:40 pm.
