I'd like to think I'm a skilled, courteous and defensive driver. I've got a pretty good grip on the rules and regulations.  I just wish every other motorist was in the same boat.

Yesterday, I'm southbound on 1st Avenue NE and come to a complete stop at the stop sign at High Street. There's another vehicle approaching the intersection. The driver is eastbound on High and making a right turn to proceed southbound on 1st.

I ease into the intersection slowly, waiting for the other driver to proceed. Their car stopped, leaving me in limbo. If I continue and that vehicle hits mine, I'm in the wrong  I don't want that. So, I smile and pleasantly wave, urging my fellow motorist to continue moving forward.

Well, you shoulda heard just what I seen!

My fellow motorist became agitated, hollered an emphatic "NO" from the driver's seat and then made several gestures, vigorously, with both hands all while looking at me like I'm an idiot.

I got a little anxious! There I was, in the middle of a busy intersection and I didn't know where to go. And then the other motorist made another hand gesture, clearly telling me...where to go.
