The City of Moose Jaw says it collected 3,979 kilograms of hazardous material at its Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Collection Day held on August 26.

Items collected included:

984 kg of flammable liquids.
546 kg of paint.
410 kg of pesticides.
500 kg of used oil and antifreeze.
254 kg of aerosol material (paint, flammable/toxic items).

256 vehicles passed through the drop-off location at the City Complex

This was the second HHW Collection Day of 2023. The first event, held April 15, saw 123 vehicles pass through, dropping off 1,786 kg of hazardous material.

All hazardous waste was sorted and collected by GFL Environmental, who is contracted by the city to dispose of all acceptable material.

Items not accepted included shotgun shells, hydrogen sulphide and film developing liquid.

The City reminds residents that items like used oil/oil filters and antifreeze can be disposed of at the city landfill, while paint and electronics can be recycled at SARCAN year-round.
