Moose Jaw City Council threw their support behind their hometown team last night.

During public acknowledgements, Mayor Clive Tolley wished the Warriors best of luck as they compete against the Portland Winterhawks for the franchise’s first WHL Championship.

“I would like to congratulate on behalf of city council and administration, the Moose Jaw Warriors for winning the East Division of the Western Hockey League. Now, they’re involved in a series with Portland to declare the Western Hockey League champions,” Tolley said.

All of the councillors wore Moose Jaw Warriors jerseys to the meeting last night and a big banner that said “Go Warriors Go” hung from the Council Support Clerk’s desk.

Tolley added that a gift is in the mail for Saskatoon Mayor Charlie Clark and their city council. The Warriors defeated the Saskatoon Blades in seven games in the WHL Eastern Conference Championship.

“I would like to thank the Moose Jaw Warriors for allowing me to loan this beautiful new jersey and this will be sent to Charlie Clark in Saskatoon so Charlie can wear it at the City of Saskatoon’s next council meeting,” Tolley said to applause from city council.

The WHL Championship Series now turns to the Moose Jaw Events Centre starting with Game 3 on Tuesday night. Puck drop is 8 p.m. The Warriors are encouraging fans to wear red and “Paint The Hangar Red.”

The Warriors will have a chance to wrap up the series at home after taking a 2-0 series lead with a pair of wins to open the series in Portland.

You can catch the action for the entire series on Country 100 with the Voice of the Warriors James Gallo.
