Moose Jaw Crime Stoppers is currently searching for new board members.

The organization collects anonymous tips from the public to help solve crimes, with tippers being eligible for cash rewards when those tips lead to arrests.

Chairperson Lyle Johnson said they’ve seen a positive response in applications, receiving ten so far. “It’s been a very positive thing, and certainly indicative of the respect that people have for the Crime Stoppers program in this city.”

While there is no exact deadline, Johnson said they’ll be deciding on board members in the next month.

Board members must be willing to commit to a monthly meeting. “We discuss the crime that’s being reported, and also the guidelines that we have about values that are placed on certain kinds of crimes and certain types of transgressions,” explained Johnson.

“It’s a pretty responsible position, because each of the board members has input into the decision-making process of how much should be awarded for the solution of a crime.”

If you’re interested in applying, you can email crimestoppersmj@gmail.com. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, live in the city or RM of Moose Jaw, and submit to a criminal record check. For more information, you can visit Crime Stoppers on Facebook here
