Canada Day in Moose Jaw will be going out with a bang.

A fireworks display in honour of Canada’s 157th birthday is scheduled to take place starting at dusk at the Hamilton Flats slo-pitch fields.

Tourism Moose Jaw Executive Director Jacki L’Heureux-Mason said the fireworks would not be possible without the generous support of the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Club.

“When we picked up Canada Day, I want to say in 2018, we had to get the community to get the money for the fireworks. It’s not something that we are funded to do and we were able to piece together the money we needed,” L’Heureux-Mason said.

“The next year, the Kinsmen came in and said, ‘We want to be a big part of this.’ So, they have been providing the money for the fireworks since 2019 fully and without them, it wouldn’t be happening.”

There will be road closures around Hamilton Flats at around 2 p.m. on Monday so that the fireworks team can get set up.

Trish German with Tourism Moose Jaw asks that residents obey all temporary road closures and signage.

“We ask that everyone’s diligent with parking and watch for people running across the road, because safety is always our top priority, so pay attention to the people who are directing traffic,” German said.

Along with the fireworks, other festivities for Canada Day include Park Art in Crescent Park in support of the Moose Jaw Museum and Art Gallery.
