As the 20th anniversary of the Saskatchewan First Responders Conference is taking place this weekend(January 24th, 25th, and 26th), you might have noticed an increase in medical personnel.

The conference features educational activities for first responders and EMS from all across the province.

Chairman of the Conference Bill Cook details more about the turnout.

"140 or 150 is probably where we average. Our biggest turnout was our 10th anniversary and we had 178. Our tradition is that it's freezing cold this weekend so it's ironic that it's such a nice day on our 20th anniversary."

This year was above the average for attendance sitting at 165 registered attendees.

Phil Heinrichs is an EMR from Wawota Saskatchewan, he explained why he likes coming to the conference each year.

"I just enjoy the learning and the teaching that takes place each year and it's a great time to just get to know all those who work in EMS with me."

165 was the number that took courses this year, but that number doesn't include all the volunteers and guest speakers that also attend the event.
