It’s icy out there this morning with the snowfall.

Brad Vrolijk, lead forecaster with Environment and Climate Change Canada, said we’re expecting light snows to last for much of the day today. “The snow across southern Saskatchewan this morning is the lingering instability behind a low-pressure system that moved through yesterday and is on its way out of the Prairies today.”

The daytime high for today is minus 3, expected to drop to minus 17 with the wind chill overnight.

He said large amounts of snow are not expected. “But there could be heavier flurries embedded within the light snow that could give a couple of centimeters here and there throughout the day.”

Conditions are expected to improve tomorrow with flurries fading away and a high of 0 degrees.

On the weekend, there will be a high-pressure area coming south from the Arctic, bringing sunny skies. “It will be generally cool, but with the strengthening April sun, we’ll see a return to much closer to seasonal temperatures.”

It’s expected to be sunny this weekend, with daytime highs of 7 degrees on Saturday, and 14 degrees on Sunday.
