A former Assiniboia daycare worker who is accused of sexually assaulting three boys under the age of 12 was back in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on Tuesday.

The man, who cannot be named under a publication ban that could identify victims or witnesses, appeared via telephone and was represented by Legal Aid lawyer Suzanne Lalonde.

Lalonde told Judge Brian Hendrickson that the man had acquired Estes Fonkalsrud as his new lawyer. On Fonkalsrud’s behalf, Lalonde requested and received an adjournment to April 8.

Hendrickson inquired whether the next court appearance would be a bail hearing. Lalonde said it would be to speak to the charges as there is still outstanding disclosure that the defence needs to receive from the Crown prosecutor’s office.

The man was arrested on Nov. 27 after a search warrant was executed at a home-based daycare in Assiniboia. The investigation alleges sexual assaults against three boys during the mid-2010s.

The man is facing the following charges:

  • Three counts of sexual assault
  • Three counts of sexual interference of a person under the age of 16
  • Two counts of invitation of sexual touching of a person under the age of 16
  • Three counts of making sexually explicit material available to a person under the age of 16
  • One count of voyeurism
  • One count of possession of child pornography

The man will be back in Moose Jaw Provincial Court on April 8 where he is expected to appear via video from remand.
