The fire at the scene of a Thursday-morning train derailment continues to burn Friday, and emergency crews are still rerouting traffic from Highway 39 near Macoun through detours on grid roads.

A Thursday-night release from CP said that nobody was injured in a freight train derailment a little before 10 a.m. Thursday.

CP said their hazardous materials experts were deployed to the scene to coordinate with local emergency responders.

Two cars that were involved in the derailment were carrying liquefied petroleum gas.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada sent investigators to the scene as an investigation into its cause is underway.

A semi-driver that travelled through the area said that the fire was still blazing before 5 a.m. Friday.

A Thursday-evening update from the province's Highway Hotline, posted at 5:56, said smoke is reducing visibility and both lanes were closed.
