Scott Osmachenko, recreation services manager with the City of Moose Jaw spoke to us about some key areas in the guide.

He said that summer is a popular time of year for swim lessons, and registration is now open, with full details in the guide. “Our first week is at the outdoor pool, and then we go back to the Kinsmen Sportsplex. We have two-week sessions, and one-week sessions –lots of different times and different options.”

The Kinsmen Sportsplex will be closed for annual maintenance June 10 through July 2, with the Phyllis Dewar outdoor pool opening on June 10.

The Yara Centre will be closed June 3 through June 7 for annual maintenance.

There are plenty of summer options for kids when they’re out of school, including the Yara Centre Day Camp, which runs 7:45 until 5:30 p.m. from July 2 through August 23. There are options for children ages 4 through 12. “They’re at the Yara Centre, field trips, visit the pool – all kinds of things,” said Osmachenko.

There is also a free Playground Program running July 2 until August 21 Monday through Friday (except August 5) from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at six parks throughout the city. The program offers songs, crafts, and games among other activities for children ages 6 to 12.

“We’re going to go to Optimist Park, 1996 Summer Games, Elgin Park, Sunningdale Park, Kinsmen Eastend Park, and then new this year, we’re going to move our program to the Kinsmen Regal Heights Park – that's mainly due to the new spray park that’s going to open there.”

All spray parks in Moose Jaw are scheduled to open on June 1.

The Youth Activity Centre is also available at several locations throughout the summer for youths aged 13-17, and runs weekdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

You can find more information about Parks and Recreation and how to register for the programs on the City of Moose Jaw’s website here.
