The free Junior Chef cooking classes offered by Hunger in Moose Jaw are filling up for the summer sessions.

“Kids come and they participate in cooking classes, and learn cooking skills, and the class runs one hour per week,” said Sharla Sept, executive director with Hunger in Moose Jaw.

Each class runs for four consecutive weeks, with two children and an instructor. The classes are for children between the ages of 9 and 12.

While the cooking classes run year-round and new classes are created on an ongoing basis, their summer sessions are almost full.

“During the school year, our classes run from 4 p.m. - 5 p.m., and in the summer, the hours are slightly different. They may be in a morning class, or in an afternoon class,” said Sept.

“Our classes that start at 4 p.m. usually make a meal so that they can bring it home to their parents. Some of our favourites, of course, have been tacos or pizza, but the meals are created to be a well-balanced meal that they can bring home.”

Sept said they have had hundreds of children participate in the classes, which are coordinated by Janet Ludwar. You can e-mail juniorchef2021@gmail.com if you are interested in signing your child up.
