Local musicians Lowana Wallace and Jared Martins are performing their first in-person concert since the beginning of the pandemic tonight, and they couldn't be more excited.

The duo met over 15 years ago and have been playing and recording music together ever since. Wallace says there's something magical about playing live with someone you trust so much.

"When you play music with someone that you've been performing with for a really long time," says Wallace, "there's a lot of wonderful unspoken communication that you can have together."

Wallace says it was fun to perform for her fans over livestream during the past year and a half and help make people feel less lonely. But there's nothing like a live show, she adds.

"There's just nothing like being in a room with other people and getting their immediate feedback. It's so exciting."

The concert is going to be a bittersweet one for the pair. With Martins soon moving to Toronto, this will be one of the last times that they will be able to perform together.

"There's not a lot of other musicians like Jared out there," explains Wallace. "He's super easy to play with but also really professional. Just top-notch. So I'm really excited for this one, big, final show."

Tonight's setlist will mostly consist of covers, with selections from James Taylor, Nora Jones, Billy Joel, and some jazz and oldies thrown in for good fun.

"We've been practicing a bunch of songs that we've never done before just for this one night, so we really want people to come out and have a fun and relaxing time."

You can see Wallace and Martins tonight, Aug. 19 starting at 7:00 pm at The Hive on Main St. Tickets are available at the door or online.
