Moose Jaw city council updates landfill fees

Moose Jaw city council has voted for an update to the landfill rate changes which took effect January 1st of this year.  

The motion to change special handled waste fees for non-residents was missed in the original proposal and has been retroactively updated to January 1st. 

The changes to the rate will take effect on February 1st. No retroactive collections will be made on tipping fees prior to the rate change  

The non-resident rate for special handled waste will be a $400 flat fee per load plus $100 per tonne. 

The changes to landfill rates are part of a strategy to increase revenue sources and reduce reliance on residential property taxes, with the new landfill fees estimated to bring an additional $254,178 annually.
