Saskatoon has the closest international airport, but a new announcement out of Regina could be worth a few extra hours on the road.

In an email release shared through the Regina Airport Authority, Lynx Air was described as an ultra low-cost airline, and announced on Wednesday that there "will be six weekly flights on each route in and out of Regina to Vancouver and Toronto". The inaugural Saskatchewan addition means that beginning June 20, 2024, Saskatchewan's capital will join Lynx's list of 23 North American destinations.

With flights three days of the week, Lynx looks to offer customers 'consistency and convenience for their travel experience'.

“We are excited to be adding Regina to the Lynx Air network in the lead up to summer. The province of Saskatchewan has seen significant reductions in capacity lately and prices are too high, and we aim to change that,” said Vijay Bathija, CCO of Lynx. “We are pleased to offer an ultra-affordable option to connect Regina and Saskatchewan to BC and Ontario. Whether you are travelling to explore this gateway to the Prairies or to visit your loved ones in the region, Lynx will ensure a great flying experience at an ultra-affordable price.".

Justin Reves, Director of Revenue Development, Public Relations, and Customer Experience for the Regina Airport Authority has heard feedback that a low-cost airline would work in Saskatchewan, and they are excited to be offering travel between three major parts of Canada.

Regina Mayor Sandra Masters, Service Regina and Tourism's Jennifer Johnson, Regina Hotel Association President Tracy Fahlman, and Kurush Minocher with the Greater Toronto Airports Authority all made further comments commending the news.
