What started as a side project for one of the members of Great Big Sea has turned into a feature film. Murray Foster of the Canadian celtic/pop band has written and directed a movie called "Cocksure Lads" about a fictitious British band.

Foster says the idea for the movie came from his love of 60's British pop music, which resulted in actually recording music as the fake band.

"We went into the studio and recorded the Great Hits of the Cocksure Lads, a fictitious band, and after that I said we should make a movie about this. We had the music, the characters and we knew the band history. About 4 years ago I started writing the screenplay."

There's a local connection to the movie as well, Tamara Doerksen is the Executive Producer of the movie and is originally from Eyebrow, Saskatchewan.

Foster says Tamara's help securing financing for the film was a difference-maker.

"I realized that she was someone who totally had her act together. I asked her out for coffee and asked if she wanted to run the fundraising for the movie and she grabbed it with both hands. Basically a year after that meeting we were shooting the movie. There would be no movie without Tamara."

Doerksen will be in attendance when the movie is played at the Moose Jaw public library tomorrow night at 7.  She'll also host a question and answer session following the film.
