It's been a rough start to the year for staff at the Temple Gardens Mineral Spa here in Moose Jaw.  Staff have been answering the phones, dealing with social media and trying to explain to guests why their pool is closed.

Turns out, they sprung a leak while doing their annual maintenance work according to General Manager David Wood.

"When refilling the pool after the planned shutdown, we had water infiltration which affected the convention space bellow and so we had to drain the pool and properly seal (it)." explained Wood. "Obviously, we're taking a safety first approach right now and we want to make sure that it's sealed to stay sealed for the year."

Wood says most guests understand the situation while some have been very disappointed. The hotel is still full but refunds or free cancellations have been offered to guests who have changed their minds based on the closure.

The plan was to have the pool fixed Wednesday and then start the refilling process followed by a thorough cleaning on Thursday.  Assuming everything goes according to plan and there are no more leaks, the area should be re-opened to the public sometime on Friday.

This isn't the first time something like this has occurred according to Wood.  It was a few years ago that a similar leak occurred, resulting in the pool being closed for a short time.  He says it's just the reality of dealing with a pool and sometimes there are leaks.
