After spending a decent chunk of the new year under a cold warning already, the frigid temperatures have set in once again.

A period of very cold wind chills is expected to stick around to finish off the weekend as a cold arctic ridge settles over Saskatchewan.

Highs for most of the week aren't expected to be much better than -20 C, and the windchill can certainly make it feel close to -40 C at times. There is, however the possibility of a slight warm-up towards the end of the work week.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Dan Fulton said the abnormally-cold weather seems content to hang around southwest Saskatchewan, thanks to a low-pressure system.

"For the coming week, we're still saying well below normal. Highs anywhere, I guess, around the minus teens. Normals highs for this time of year are around -2 C, so we remain in the deep freeze."

Ensure appropriate dress is taken into consideration as frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with the wind chill.
