The Rotary Club of Moose Jaw Wakamow Christmas tree lot is open for business.

The Rotary Club opened its lot on Thursday for those looking for a real Christmas tree this holiday season. The moment they opened their doors, the Rotary Club sold their first tree to the Wondering Market.

Located at the Moose Jaw Co-op food store parking lot, the tree lot is a popular destination for residents looking for a real tree.

“We sell over 400 trees. We have three kinds. We have spruce trees, Fraser firs and balsam firs,” said Dave Bowler from the Wakamow Rotary Club.

The tree lot is open on weekdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

All of the proceeds from the tree sales go towards charities supported by the Rotary Club.

“We do a lot of things, a lot of local things. We do a few international things, educating kids in third world countries, eradicating polio, and then we probably give to about 20 different organizations around town,” Bowler said.

Some of the local charities that the Rotary Club supports include:

  • Dolly Parton Imagine Library
  • Festival of Words – Kids Ink
  • Heartland Hospice
  • Hunger in Moose Jaw
  • Joe’s Place
  • John Howard Society
  • Moose Jaw Literacy Network
  • Moose Jaw Food Bank
  • Moose Jaw Health Foundation
  • Moose Jaw Multicultural Council
  • Moose Jaw Public Library
  • Moose Jaw Transition House
  • Music Festival Awards
  • Phoenix Academy
  • Post-Secondary Scholarships
  • Wakamow Valley Authority

The Rotary Club also helps in Guatemala by building schools with classrooms, kitchens, washrooms and computers and providing scholarships for children to further their education past Grade 6.

If you are looking to get a tree from the Rotary Club’s tree lot, you will want to hurry. Bowler expects they will be sold out by Dec. 10.
