The Peacock Toilers handed the Vanier Spirits their first regular season loss Thursday at Peacock.

The Toilers won three sets to one (25-19, 25-19, 23-25, 25-21). Toilers head coach Lorne Polupski said their team had a few days off before last night due to Thanksgiving.

“I wanted to give everybody a rest and I thought we came out really strong,” Polupski said. “We got sluggish as the match went on. I didn’t think Vanier played their best either so we’re pretty evenly matched.”

Polupski thinks the season will go down to the wire.

“They’ve been consistently playing hard in both gyms,” he said, not believing that home court advantage played any role in Peacock winning. “They just want to go hard at each other. It’s just competition. It’s just good, hard play and good hard competition. Any team can win or lose on any given night, to be honest.”

In other girls action, the B.C.A. Cougars defeated the Cornerstone Falcons 3-2 (20-25, 25-16. 29-27, 20-25, 15-8).

In the senior boys division, the B.C.A. Cougars defeated the Peacock boys 3-0 (26-24, 25-14, 25-18), Central defeated Cornerstone 3-1 (25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 25-15) and Vanier swept Avonlea three sets to none (25-13, 25-20, 25-20).

Regular season games resume Tuesday in the girls division when Peacock is at Cornerstone and Vanier is at Central. In the boys division, Vamier is at Central, Cornerstone is at Avonlea and B.C.A. is at Riverview.
