A 25-year-old Edmonton man was arrested near Lumsden after RCMP uncovered a large shipment of unstamped cigarettes and tobacco. 

At around 1 p.m. on Sunday, RCMP officers stopped a semi truck on Highway 11 near Lumsden. Police say they observed evidence that the semi was transporting illegal cigarettes. 

A search of the truck and trailer uncovered 12.5 pallets of unstamped cigarette. Officers seized a total of 356 cases of unstamped tobacco for a total of 3.56 million cigarettes. 

Ajay Kumar, 25, of Edmonton, has been charged with possession for the purpose of sale of tobacco products, possession of unstamped tobacco products, unlawful importation of tobacco and possession of unstamped tobacco. 

Kumar made his first court appearance in Regina Provincial Court on Monday.
