Rising water levels in the Moose Jaw River have caused dangerous conditions around the Low Level Crossing Bridge in Wakamow Valley.

Because of this, the Wakamow Valley Authority is asking residents to avoid the bridge located just off of Fourth Avenue Southwest.

Wakamow Valley Authority General Manager Todd Johnson explained the situation.

“The ice has played a part and then currently what's happening there right now and why the water is so high is there's a high activity of beavers, so they're actually using the culverts and they're stacking the wood up against the culverts,” Johnson said.

Most recently, there was an ice jam advisory sent out by the Water Security Agency for downstream of the Kingsway weir.

Johnson said ice jams have been causing some issues in the valley, especially around the Low Level Crossing Bridge.

“The lower crossing had a little bit of an ice jam and raised the water levels and the ice also took off the platform on that Low Level Crossing, so we'll be replacing that, but there has been ice jams in spots, but we haven't really seen flooding,” he said.

Johnson added that they are in constant communication with the Water Security Agency to monitor ice jams, water levels, and any potential flooding.
