Samantha Becotte, president of the Saskatchewan Teachers’ Federation (STF), announced in a Thursday afternoon press meeting that teachers around the province will strike for single day on Monday, January 22nd.

This is the second day of striking for teachers in Saskatchewan, as negotiations have stalled between the province and the STF. The STF and provincial government have not sat at the negotiating table since the 5 days of unsuccessful conciliation meetings in December.

“We need them to engage in this process. We need them to be willing to have a back and forth, and we’re ready to go back to the table at any point,” said Becotte.

Becotte outlined the decision to have another one-day strike, as opposed to a longer strike. “We know the impact that that can have on our students. Teachers want to be in schools supporting our kids – we don’t want to have a significant disruption like a full, unlimited walk-out."

We will have more information as the situation progresses.
