Last night marked the final night in council chambers for 3 city councillors who have decided to not seek re-election; Scott McMann, Chris Warren, and longtime councilmen Brian Swanson.

Not shy of controversy, Swanson had become arguably the most recognized member of council over his 24 years on the job.

"I just would like to express to the people of Moose Jaw that I've always considered it a tremendous privilege to sit in this chair and represent your interests." said Swanson during his farewell speech, "I make no apologies for what I've done over the years. I've always attempted to come here every night well prepared, to have a thorough knowledge of the issue, and to clearly speak a position that was backed up."

Swanson said that he wishes council could have done more during his time, but that he wishes nothing but the best for whoever is elected to fill his spot

Councillor Warren who was first elected in 2016 thanked his colleagues, city administration, members of the many board committees, and the residents of the friendly city.

"I would like to acknowledge all citizens of Moose Jaw for being wonderful friends and champions, to make a positive change in our community, and thank you for allowing me to be a part of this unbelievable opportunity to represent my community on city council over the last four years. It's been a great ride, and good luck and best wishes to our next city council."

Councillor McMann, who was also first elected in 2016, said he regrets how things ended with the DFFH board and maintained that he did nothing wrong. He went on to say he did the best he could to serve Moose Jaw during his tenure.

"I learned a lot about how the city operates, how municipalities operate, and one of the big things I learned as well is that you never mess with people's garbage pickup. Overall, the experience on council has been very good, and I encourage others to put their name in in four years."

He went on to wish the next 6 elected councillors all the best during their time. There are currently 15 individuals in the running for a spot on council, with 3 current councillors seeking re-election; Heather Eby, Dawn Luhning, and Crystal Froese.
