This month’s Performer’s Cafe features local filmmaker, songwriter, and comedian Dustan Hlady.

The open-mic nights are hosted by the Festival of Words on the last Thursday of every month at The Hive in downtown Moose Jaw. This month’s open mic night is Thursday, March 28 and runs from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Amanda Farnell, executive director with Festival of Words, said that no pre-registration is required to perform.  “We open the open the open mic up to everyone, and people can sign up. There's poetry readings, there’s musicians coming and doing covers or playing originals.”

“Every month, we have a special headliner. This month, we have Dustan Hlady. He’s going to do some music and he’s going to do some comedy.”

Farnell said it’s a welcoming crowd, and they’ve seen many new people attending and performing.

“It’s really nice to have an outlet for local talent here, that they can workshop their stuff or showcase their talent and get more confidence in building their performance skills.”

The Performers Cafe is funded through a variety of grants and donations. If you’re interested in donating, you can find the Festival of Words website here
