Wakamow Valley will once again be lit up bright with Christmas lights this December as the Valley of Lights returns.

Visitors to the park will be treated to a winter wonderland starting Dec. 1 at the Lorne Calvert Campground. The lights will be on Thursday to Sunday throughout the month of December from 6 to 9 p.m. The Valley of Lights will be open on Christmas Day.

Hundreds of thousands of lights will be strung amongst the trees as well as a number of Christmas displays as part of the Valley of Lights. Wakamow Valley Authority general manager Donna MacQuarrie-Bye said they’ve expanded the displays this year.

“We’ve probably decorated close to 90 to 95 trees this year and added probably about a half dozen displays. We have a candy cane lane this year, which was a request from the public from last year,” she said.

Admission is $10 per vehicle and it is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for Wakamow Valley.

“All the funds raised from this event go towards programs and different maintenance projects that we have going on in the park for the upcoming 2024 year. Any sponsorship dollars are going towards hopefully getting a bigger display in the years to come,” MacQuarrie-Bye said.

A number of special events will be taking place at the Valley of Lights beginning with a performance by the Moose Jaw Community Choir on Dec. 9.

The Grinch will make an appearance on Dec. 17. It is also the “Drive for Charity” night. Wakamow Valley has partnered with the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Club to raise funds to fight Cystic Fibrosis.

Santa Claus will then make an appearance at the Valley of Lights on Dec. 23.

Wagon rides will be offered on Dec. 16 and 24. Pre-registration is required by calling the Wakamow Valley Authority office at (306) 692-2717. Wagon rides are an additional $20 per family of five.
