The 2023 World Para Ice Hockey Championship organizing committee was named the 2023 Moose Jaw Group of the Year on Tuesday night at a ceremony at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

The organizing committee pulled off a magnificent feat last year. They had 70 days to put together a historic, world-class event here in Moose Jaw.

“We put a lot of hours in and had a lot of emails and text messages going back and forth, but it was so worth it, and I would do it again. It was so worth it,” said co-chair Marcy Ramage

Canada had never hosted the World Para Ice Hockey Championships before and the organizing committee had to put together event volunteers, organize transportation for the players and their gear, establish overall logistics, plan game day activities, book leisure activities for the athletes and secure team hosts.

“We were honoured to be able to be a part of this committee, but we really couldn’t have done it without our volunteers. We had a super crew of volunteers,” Ramage said.

From May 28 to June 4, Moose Jaw welcomed eight teams from around the world.

The event because an overwhelming success with a large financial impact on the city and was truly a legacy event for Moose Jaw.

Also nominated for the Group of the Year award were Journey to Hope, Moose Jaw Diversified Services and Spike Dog and Cat Grooming staff.

The 2023 Group of the Year Awards were presented by the Moose Jaw and District Chamber of Commerce, CAE and Golden West Radio.
