Peacock's Jacob Laxdal drive to basket for a layup against Caronport's Doug Isaac. It was a start to finish domination for the Peacock Toilers on Tuesday night.

They picked up a 111-21 win over the Caronport Cougars in high school senior boys basketball action, controlling every aspect of the game in the win.

“We played our game, we didn't slow down, we didn't stop,” said Peacock forward Jacob Laxdal.  “We wanted to push them as far as we could, we didn't want to show any mercy tonight.”

Peacock started off by going on a 6-0 run to open the game and never looked back.  The most impressive aspect of the win was the fact that they held the Cougars to just six points in the second half, three coming with 46 seconds left in the third and three more with under a minute to go in the fourth.

“These games are more like a practice for us,” said Laxdal, who had 19 points for the Toilers in the win.  “Games like this help us tremendously.”

After falling behind early, the over-matched Cougars couldn't claw their way back and continued to falling back as they struggled to get anything going offensively against a tough man-to-man defence played by Peacock.

“We certainly didn't perform well offensively especially, not a lot of ball movement and not a lot of player movement,” said George Willatt, Caronport head coach.  “We just needed to execute more quickly and more efficiently because they play a very good man-to-man defence.

“We weren't taking advantage of backdoor cuts, but we've been playing more rurally the last two weekends and we see very little man-to-man, mostly zone, and it just didn't happen the way it could have.”

The Toilers were shorthanded, playing without starting guard Ryder Epoch and guard Nolan Thoroughgood, but that didn't seem to slow down the team, which saw all nine players score in the win.

“With the short amount of players, I thought we did really good for the kind of gas that we had in the tank,” said Laxdal.

The Cougars were also missing a key piece with post Inyota Mwunvaneza not playing and they felt his absence inside as Peacock was able to control the boards and essentially control the game that way.

“We missed our big guy inside, I'm not saying that was the only thing,” said Willatt.

Ryan Beattie lead Peacock in the win with 21 points, followed closely by Braedon Crone, who had 20 points.  Eric Forbes also chipped in with 18 points.  Aaron Adrian was Caronport's top scorer with nine points in the loss.

The win improves Peacock's record to 6-0 in league play, while Caronport drops to 0-5.  Both teams are now off until next week when the Toilers will be over at Vanier and the Cougars host Central on Tuesday.
