CP Railway is once again teaming up with Moose Jaw Coop for the Good Buy to Hunger food drive.

You can purchase $10 food bags at the Moose Jaw Coop Marketplace grocery store beginning today until Dec. 16. The bags are filled with non-perishable food items that will be donated to the Moose Jaw and District Food Bank.

“Our focus is to feed those in need and current times the need is greater than we've ever seen, so we have to all come together as a community and support our local food bank and the Moose Jaw Coop just makes it easy to do that,” said CP Railway support services supervisor Gabi Belanger.

This year’s event is bigger than ever before as it is expanding outside of Moose Jaw.

“We were always looking to grow our campaigns and we recently have amalgamated with Genesis Coop, which is located in Avonlea,” said Michaela Turner, Marketing and Community Relations Manager for Moose Jaw Coop.

“So, we are doing the Good Buy to Hunger campaign in Avonlea this year as well. The food bank is the district, which supports Avonlea, Rouleau, Wilcox and all the surrounding areas of Moose Jaw.”

You can purchase a $10 Good Buy to Hunger food bag at the home centre in Avonlea. The Avonlea school is also holding a concert and taking a silver collection or food donation to go towards the cause.

The food drive is coming at an important time of the year for the food bank, as many families find it difficult to make ends meet during the Christmas season.

“It really bumps up the amount of food that we receive over the holidays and helps us keep up with the demand that we experience especially over the month of December as families are looking for a little bit extra over the holidays,” said Moose Jaw and District Food Bank program development manager Jason Moore.

This event runs in conjunction with the CP Holiday Train, which is going virtual on Canadian Pacific’s Facebook page on Dec. 18. Headlining the “Holiday Train at Home” is Steven Page and The Strumbellas. You can watch the concert live at 7 p.m. local time.
