A petting zoo, vendors and rides come together on Sunday, August 11th for two foundations.

The Early Childhood Intervention Program, together with Wilson Farms, is holding a family day 10 miles west of Moose Jaw.

Shannon Wilson, Early Childhood Interventionist with ECIP and Owner of Wilson Farms, spoke about what the day will bring.

"I was hoping for more of a farmer's market, but it's turned into a craft and trade show. We do have vendors coming. We have little rides that we've made with garden tractors that pull them around. They're made out of rain barrels. So there's rides that kids can go on, there's the petting farm. If we don't end up having any food trucks, then the ECIP board will be running a concession with hot dogs and drinks and that sort of thing. Hopefully, there will be face painting. It will be a family fun day."

Wilson works with ECIP and said they work with children from birth to school age who have developmental delays or disabilities or are at risk for delays.

"So that's anything from being born premature or multiple births, to diagnosed delays. It's a pretty wide range. And what we do is we go in and we help the parents works on developmental goals specific to that child and their delay."

Wilson Farms 1884 Foundation is a non-profit organization that gives people a chance to experience the helping properties of animals.

"I have a program called Just Kidding Around and it's animal interaction. I go up to the Kinsmen inclusion centre about 2 times a month and I take some animals with me. Usually a small goat, duck, a rabbit, a chicken, that sort of thing. And then people get to interact with the animals. Because animals are so very therapeutic."

Wilson, who also works with children who have experienced trauma in their lives, said a petting zoo was a natural fit since she planned to work with animals from the beginning.

The farm is found on the south side of Highway #1, just before the town of Caronport on range road 283.
