The Prairie South School Division is pretty happy with the way things have gone so far considering all of the changes made at the end of the last school year.

No one wanted to close the schools and no one wanted more rural kids on school buses. But, declining enrollment in our schools is a fact of life and life is as good as can be expected for children in the Prairie South School Division.

You'll remember schools at Willow Bunch, Briercrest, Crane Valley and Limerick along with Ross School in Moose Jaw closed in June. Children in those communities now have to ride the bus to neighboring towns.

Director of Education Brenda Edwards says there's only one student who has to get on the bus before 7:30 in the morning.

"And its a concern, not just when schools are closing, but its a long day for some of our young people and we try to stream line that as much as possible."

There are now 40 schools and 7125 students in Prairie South and Edwards says it's less of a decline than projected.
