I got two fortune cookies the other day. One said, "Getting away for the weekend will help clear your mind" and the other read, "Get ready for a daring adventure."

Ya, no, that's not happening.

It reminds me of a Mexican vacation I took a few years ago at Playa Del Carmen. I was there to relax and soak up the sun.

The friend I was staying with introduced me to another guy who lives there. He suggested I spend a day with him and his five-year-old son. They'd take me parasailing.

I told him I didn't want to risk injury while on a nice vacation. I also didn't really want to spend a whole day with a needy child. I didn't tell him that, though.

Anyway, he then proposed a drive south to see the Mayan ruins.

I thanked him for the offer and made it clear that I just wanted to do my own thing.

The guy persisted, saying he didn't understand why I wouldn't want to go see a world-famous tourist attraction while I was on holidays.

So, I suggested that perhaps the reason why the site is called the Mayan ruins is because nobody wanted to be there!

He was miffed, to say the least.

However, he finally left me alone and I thoroughly enjoyed the rest of my vacation.
