I have a friend who detests small talk. He just doesn't have time for it.
His trick these days is to simply say, "Nice to see you", and he walks away.
I'm thinking about that today after talking to dozens of people in a social situation last evening.
I've found, at this time of year, many are asking the question, "Have you been away?"
It's a thing. Most who ask that question don't really care but they want to tell you that they have been away and they want to tell you all about it.
I don't mind that.
It all reminds me of a conversation a good friend had on the golf course a few years ago. He was playing with a fellow who told him how he hadn't seen the snow for years. He has a place down south where he spends 5 or 6 months a year soaking up the warm sunshine.
He asked my buddy, "What about you? Do you go south in the winter?"
And he replied, "Ya...the wife and I go down to Mossbank and Assiniboia from time to time to watch the grandson play hockey."
