All the Moose Jaw Miller Express needed was only one big inning to secure the win on Tuesday night, sweeping the Swift Current 57s and advancing to the second round of the WCBL playoffs.

Moose Jaw would pick up five runs in the first inning, with their pitching and defense coming up big to keep the 57s at bay, picking up the 5-3 win.

Cameron Dunn was solid on the mound pitching five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, while striking out three. Though Swift Current threatened a few times to tie the game, Dunn was able to get the outs he needed to get out of the inning.

The Express got all their scoring accomplished in the first inning. Zach Campbell would reach base following an error by the third basemen, after Cam Grant would strike out, Nate Mensik would reach first base via a walk. Bryan Reyes would also be walked to load the bases, with one out, with Moose Jaw yet to record a hit.

Austin Gurney would be next up to bat and get hit by a pitch to bring home the first run of the game, making it 1-0, with still the bases loaded.

Moose Jaw would finally get their first hit of the game, after a Joe Osburn single to centre field that fooled the defender bouncing over him allowing Mensik and Reyes to score, making it 3-0. Greyson Barrett would bring home Osburn and Gurney after a single to right field making it 5-0.

57s starter Adam Golby would settle in following the first and pitch five shutout innings, allowing only four more hits, and striking out seven in the loss.

Swift Current would break Moose Jaw’s shutout bid in the fourth inning after Matthew Ward gets a hold of one and blasts it out of the park to put the 57s on the board 5-1.

The 57s offense would continue in the fifth inning. Justin Barnes would lead off the inning with a single, and then eventually would make his way to third, after a stolen base and a wild pitch.

Following the first out of the inning, Logan Grant would earn himself a walk, putting two men on with one out. Matthew Ward would pick up his second RBI of the game with a single bringing home Barnes from third making it 5-2. Brody Alexandre then, hits another single to centre field, allowing Grant to score making it 5-3, giving the 57s some life.

With two on and one out, Dunn was able to get the two outs he needed to stop the rally.

That’s as close as Swift Current would get as Kaleb Waller, Liam Sommer, and Reece Helland would shut the door out of the bullpen on the mound combining for just one hit, and a strikeout. Helland would pick up the save.

Osburn would bat two-for-five with an RBI, while Greyson Barrett, had himself a game, picking up two hits and two RBIs in the win.

Moose Jaw will take on the Medicine Hat in the east division final after the Mavericks upset the Regina Red Sox and swept their series.
