The Moose Jaw Health Foundation launched a new fundraising campaign yesterday, called “Vision of Tomorrow”, with a goal of raising $825,000 to update pre- and post-surgical equipment at the Dr. F. H. Wigmore Regional Hospital.

Included in the vision for the hospital are four Stryker Systems (one for each surgical suite), a colonoscope, endoscope, and monitors for surgical recovery.

Kelly McElree, executive director of the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, said they are also looking to bring bronchoscopy to the hospital through this fundraising effort. “The bronchoscopy provides a direct view of airways, allowing for diagnostic and therapeutic interventions crucial for managing a wide range of pulmonary conditions.”

He pointed to health conditions that would benefit from bronchoscopy locally, including people with COPD, lung cancer, and pneumonia.

“Only through donor support can the Foundation equip pre- and post-surgical teams with [the] next generation of surgical technology, including a new surgical procedure for patients in and around Moose Jaw,” added McElree.

McElree said they’ll be aiming to raise donations for the equipment through fundraisers such as Moose Jawg (June 15) and Concerts in the Park (Wednesdays starting June 19), as well as donations from individuals and organizations.

“I think it’s really important that we bring this equipment to the community as fast as we can, so we are going to attempt to do it over about the next three or four months,” he added.

You can make a donation to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation online here, or by calling 306-694-0373.

There’s been a 41 per cent increase in surgeries over the last two years at the hospital, with 4,600 performed last year alone.
