It’s not too late to start reading with the Moose Jaw Public Library’s summer reading club.

The program runs until August 24th, with three different programs depending on the reader’s age. The theme this year is “Adventure Begins at Your Library”.

Children Summer Reading Program (Ages 0-12)

“Kids can pick up a welcome pack at the library, and they can log their minutes reading or listening to stories, listening to audiobooks,” explained Naiomi Setter, public service/social media clerk with the Moose Jaw Public Library.

Minutes are recorded by shading in a paper clock, with one shaded clock being one hour of reading. “They can bring a clock bookmark back to the library and enter into our weekly draw."

Setter said there is no limit on clocks for the weekly draw for the children’s program, and they do three draws every week for prizes.

She added that participating in the Wednesday morning story time at 10:30 in Crescent Park and the baby story time at 10:30 on Tuesday mornings also count towards reading minutes.

Youth/Teen Reading Program (Ages 12-19)

While the suggested age is 12-19, Setter said that kids that are a bit younger can opt for this program instead.

“We have a number of different challenges that they can complete. There’s a brochure available on our website.”

Youth/teen readers get scratch tickets for participating in challenges on the brochure. Some challenges include taking a selfie at an outdoor event, reading a book by an author you’ve never read before, and listening to an audiobook on Hoopla or Libby.

Readers can also get a ticket for every two hours they read, participating in a program at the library, or a daily visit to the library checkout.

Teen prizes are on display in the library rotunda.

Adult Reading Program (Ages 18+)

Readers of physical books, e-books, and audiobooks receive a ballot for every book read. For those who complete a book review of something they've read, they’ll get a bonus ballot.

Weekly prizes for the adult program are $10 gift cards for different restaurants and bakeries in Moose Jaw. The adult program grand prize is a gift card for a night out in Moose Jaw valued at $150.
