The Moose Jaw Public Library has added telescopes to their free and growing Library of Things.

“Our Library of Things is a collection of items that are not traditional library resources,” explained Naomi Setter, public service and social media clerk for the MJPL.

The telescopes were added to the collection courtesy of financial support from the Canadian Space Agency. “They are Celestron Travel Scopes, and we have ten of them. Each backpack contains a telescope and mount, eye pieces, smartphone adaptor, flashlight and power bank, some filters, cleaning cloth, and an instruction manual.”

Setter said the telescopes are only available for Moose Jaw patrons and have a regular borrow period of two weeks with no renewals.

There are other items in the Library of Things in various places around the Moose Jaw Public Library. When their new website launches, they will have a page dedicated to this, but for now, patrons can search through the library’s online catalogue.

Items in the Library of Things in the Children’s Department include bird watching backpacks, pond-dipping kits, affirmation cards, toy kits, and C-pen readers.

On the Adult Department side, there are bat detector kits and boardgames. Radon kits are also available to borrow during the winter months.

Patrons should keep an eye out for the Regional Park Passes being added to the Library of Things from May 17th through September 15th.
