It was 10 years ago today that Mosaic Place opened its doors to the public for the first time for a self-guided tour and Midget AAA alumni game.

Over the past 10 years, the facility has hosted a number of major events and concerts, including the Scotties Tournament of Hearts women's national curling championships twice.

Along with the arena that has 21 private suites and 132 club seats, the 210,000 square-foot building includes eight curling sheets in the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre and eight conference banquet rooms.

The arena can hold 4,465 fans for hockey games and over 5,000 people for concerts.

The project came to fruition in 2006 when a civic referendum approved the downtown arena to replace the Civic Centre. The entire project cost about $61 million.

The groundbreaking took place on July 9, 2009, and was first known simply as the Downtown Multiplex.

Shortly before the opening, the City of Moose Jaw announced that the Mosaic Company had bought the naming rights to the facility to make it Mosaic Place. The agreement was worth $1.5 million over 10 years. In March of this year, the Mosaic Company announced it would be renewing the naming rights after 2021.

Mosaic Place is now home to the WHL's Moose Jaw Warriors and the Moose Jaw AAA Warriors.
