The Norwalk Virus is hitting some local folks at Providence Place.

The virus showed up a few days ago and has hit residents and staff alike with symptoms that can include cramping, diarrhea, and nausea.

While the situation sounds bad Board Chair Maureen Rice says they've got it under control. "These are not uncommon things. The Norwalk Virus is not uncommon to long term care facilities but its been for two weeks on one unit, its cleaning up there, and then there were some cases upstairs and we are following what the Public Health Medical Director Mark Vooght is telling us."

And, those instructions included a ban on visitors for a few days. Rice says it'll likely be next week before the people at Providence Place will be able to have visitors. Only patients in critical condition will be allowed to see family.
