They ran out Friday morning and they won't be scheduling any more clinics in Moose Jaw until they get their supplies figured out.

The line up was out the front door and down the street at 9 o'clock as hundreds of people turned out at the Public Health office to get their flu shot but within minutes, the staff realized they wouldn't have enough to meet the demands. Staff started counting people in line, taking names and giving out numbers to get a better idea of who would get the shot and who would be turned away.

In the end, Medical Health Officer Dr. Mark Vooght says they had to turn away a couple dozen people but for the most part, they were understanding.

"I was actually quite impressed with how disciplined people were." said Dr. Vooght. "There was a senior, would had come in from the farm, who we could not give the vaccine to because she was just a little bit late and she was a little irate. It's quite understandable and we had to apologize to her."

While they had to turn people away because there wasn't enough vaccine to go around, it took staff until the lunch hour to administer the shots they did have. Dr. Vooght is hoping to get an update on vaccine supplies this afternoon and will then let us know about the next flu shot clinic for Moose Jaw.

A news release from the province explains that they will be limiting who can get the flu shot once supplies are restocked. "Health officials are implementing plans to ensure that limited influenza vaccine supplies are used as effectively as possible.  The province is now focusing vaccination efforts only on children under five years of age and pregnant women." The shipment next week will also come with a nasal spray influenza vaccine for people between two to 59 years of age.
