An individual was taken to hospital with minor injuries after the Moose Jaw Police Service used a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW), also commonly known as a taser, on Thursday.

Police arrived at a residence in the central part of the city and found an individual in emotional distress. Police say the individual was threatening self-harm and holding a knife to their throat.

According to the police, the CEW was deployed to allow the officers to safely gain control of the individual.

The Moose Jaw Police Service notifies the public and the Saskatchewan Police Commission, an oversight body independent of the police service, when a CEW is discharged on a person.
