The Big Give initiative is well underway, but tons of donations are still coming in.

The Moose Jaw and District Chamber of Commerce has partnered with local restaurants, The Moose Jaw Food Bank, and Hunger in Moose Jaw to feed the cities most vulnerable.

Several food deliveries have already gone out to families in the city and so many deliveries are waiting to go out.

The owner of Deja Vu Cafe, Brandon Richardson, says this is an amazing initiative for the city of Moose Jaw.

Moose Jaw Chamber of Commerce CEO Rob Clark gave an update on Thursday, saying that over $27,500 has been raised so far, well above their goal of $20,000.

"Never in my dreams would I have imagined it would get to this point," Clark said.

Twenty-two restaurants are participating in the initiative and Clark believes that they will likely be able to cycle through the restaurants twice for food deliveries.

About 289 meals have been delivered so far from Canadian Brewhouse, Mad Greek, Rodos, Boston Pizza Main and Thatcher and Rosies on River Street.

"Right now it’s put about $3,100 back into those restaurants. The other will be following here. They're on schedule and they've all been reached out to," Clark said.

The initiative was scheduled to only run until the end of March, but now it will be running longer.

"This could be ongoing. If anybody ever wants to donate, we would take the money, we will get it back into the restaurant industry and just as important people are going to be fed," Clark said.

You can make a donation at any of the Moose Jaw Co-op gas bar locations, the Moose Jaw Co-op Marketplace, or by calling the Chamber of Commerce.
