While the club volleyball competition season is looking less likely, skill development sessions that are being put together by the Briercrest Volleyball Club will be going ahead, starting in February.

There will be six weeks of volleyball skill development sessions starting February 8th for players ages 15 to 18 who are within 150 km of Caronport.

Indications are that there won’t be any lessening of the current restrictions for sports in the province, but youth players are still allowed to train in groups of eight or fewer. With the likelihood of COVID restrictions staying as they are until at least the end of March, it’s not looking like a club volleyball season will be able to happen.

There will be no competitions and no spectators allowed during the sessions. Masks must be worn at all times by participants, and they must maintain three metres of social distance.

“We will run skill sessions for thee weeks in a row, then have a one week break during our college’s Reading Week break from March 1-6, and then resume for another three weeks of skill sessions from March 8th-27th,” an email from Kristy Abbott, female club co-ordinator.

Coaches are designing drills and training activities to abide by the restrictions. Many of the sessions will be taking place on Friday evenings and Saturdays, starting the weekend of February 8th.

Registration closes this Friday and is available here for girls and here for boys.
