Teams have begun training camps as they look for the top spots in the Western Hockey League, but the Warriors and Giants will have something to say about that.

It’s a brand new season starting today in the Western Hockey League.

Training camps are underway from Manitoba right across Saskatchewan, through Alberta, into BC, and down to the United States. Teams are busy registering their potential players and teaching them how they expect them to act during camp this weekend.

The newest team in the WHL has officially started their first season. The Chillawack Bruins began training camp Thursday as they look for a strong showing for their fans.

Here in Moose Jaw, registration goes Friday afternoon at 5 o'clock with the first on ice session scheduled for Saturday morning at 9am. The 80 or so players will learn nutrition and training skills while the coaching staff checks out the potential talent for the new season as the Tribe defends their first ever Eastern Conference Title.

Expectations are high for the Warriors after last seasons stellar performance and fans will get their first look at the new team Tuesday night at the Civic Centre for the annual Black and White game. 40 players will take to the ice to show why they should be on the team and carry on the strong Moose Jaw hockey tradition.

Also next week, the WHL exhibition schedule begins. Wednesday is the first time teams will get to face each other as Swift Current makes the trip to Medicine Hat. Also this year three pre-season tournaments have been scheduled for Everett, Saskatoon, and Tri-City.

As always the new season should be filled with excitement, stunning young talent, and amazing plays. You can catch it all on the Home of the Moose Jaw Warriors 800 CHAB Saturdays and Sundays with weekday games being presented on Warrior's Radio 90.9fm.

We are pleased to welcome new Voice of the Warriors James Gallo for the 2005-06 season and joining him in the booth will be Simpson, Saskatchewan's own Darren Stein as Colour Commentator.
